The first day of ‘big school’ is celebrated in the German tradition with the Grade 1 children bringing their Zuckertüte to school. A Zuckertüte is a big cardboard cone, prettily decorated and filled with chocolate, sweets, toys and all the school supplies they will need, to help “sweeten” the first day at school.
The whole school welcomes the new Grade 1’s with special songs and dancing and each Grade 1 pupil is introduced to their buddy from Grade 7.
After welcoming the new Grade 1s into the DSD family, the children return to their new classroom to open their Zuckertüte! Parents are invited to share this special time and enjoy some morning coffee before leaving the kids to enjoy the rest of their day.
