Am Montag, den 7. März, kam das KZN Philharmonic Orchestra zu Besuch an unsere Schule, und lieferten eine fantastische Show. Die Vorführung startete, zum Staunen der Kinder und Eltern, mit der gigantischen Titelmusik von Star Wars.

Timmi and Nom waren die Hauptdarsteller der Show, und stellten im Laufe der Aufführung die verschiedenen Instrumente des Orchesters vor, indem sie eines nach dem anderen spielen ließen. Es wurde auch erklärt wie wichtig die Rolle des Dirigenten ist, und dass ohne Ihn nichts klappen würde.

Die Kinder wurden dann von Timmi and Nom auf ein Musikalisches Abenteuer eingeladen und erklärten, wie die Musik, Bilder von Sonnenuntergängen, fließenden Flüssen, Freude und Schmerz malen kann. Ein großer Höhepunkt war Timmi’s imaginäres Duell zur Titelmusik von “The Pirates of the Caribbean”.

Zum Abschluss durften unsere Schüler, die Lehrer und Eltern zusammen mit den Orchester unsere Nationalhymne singen, wie auch zur Freude der Schüler die Titelmusic des zweiten Minions Film “Happy” Pharrell Williams. Die ganze Schule verlies voller Freude und mit den Traum, eines Tages für das KZN Philharmonic Orchestra zu spielen, die Halle.

Das Event das bei St Henry’s Marist School am Freitagnachmittag startete (aber wegen einem groβen Sturm beendet werden musste), wurde Montagmorgen, an unserem üblichen Pool an der Kainon Schule, nachgeholt.
In diesem Jahr wurden ganze 8 Rekorde gebrochen. 5 brach Melanie Cooke und 3 von Kirk Wilson. Melanie brach sogar den Rekord den ihre eigene Mutter, Sonja Cooke geb. Fritsch in 1979 aufgestellt hatte.
Das Schwimmfest endete mit dem “Pajama Race” der 7. Klasse. Unser Schulleiter, Herr Peter Deppe, wurde zuletzt auch von den 7. Klassen in den Pool geworfen.
Nach einer Wartezeit von 3 Jahren, gewann das Haus Mortz endlich wieder das Schwimmfest.

A great day, filled with fun, dancing and pancakes.

Arguably the most colourful day of the year, the children dressed up and spread the carnival cheer. First thing in the morning, the children and the parents gathered in the school hall to celebrate. Class by class, the children went up on stage to introduce themselves and their costumes, while parents got the opportunity to take pictures. Pancakes where sold and music was played as the children got to dance.

The DSD welcomed 12 pupils into Grade 1 this year at a special “Einschulungsfeier” on Wednesday 20 January.  Excited pupils, parents (and even some grandparents) were part of the special ceremony at which the Kindergarten, the Grade 2 to 7 pupils and all the staff welcomed the Grade 1s to “big school”.  No Einschulungsfeier at a German school would be complete without the traditional “Zuckertüte”, and our Grade 1s arrived at school carrying some very impressive Zuckertüten!

After the ceremony, parents were able to see their children to their new classroom, and then the Grade 1s got down to the serious business of learning at big school.  We wish these young pupils – the Matric class of 2027 – a happy and successful start to their school career

The Kindergarten Fun Day is an opportunity for the children to picnic together and participate in fun races. It is also an opportunity for new parents to get to know other parents in their child’s class.

The focus is on participation and having fun. Parents and older siblings also get the chance to join in some games too!

 

Grandparents Day is a chance for the children to entertain their grandparents and loved ones with a selection of songs and poems. This year, Grandparents Day will take place on Friday 4th September. Each class practices hard for the event which generates great excitement among the children.

PASCH stands for “School partners of the future”. It is an initiative by the Federal Republic of Germany, which aims to promote the German language in schools beyond Germany. DSD Has been a member since 2009 and is one of 1000 schools selected worldwide to be linked through participation in various activities as, for example, the “Green Wave” campaign, where PASCH–schools all around the world planted trees to celebrate and contribute to the diversity of nature.

PASCH verbindet über 1000 Schulen weltweit, die eines gemeinsam haben: Sie unterrichten die deutsche Sprache. PASCH unterstützt die Schülerinnen und Schüler, die Lehrkräfte und Schulen dabei. Bundesaußenminister Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier hat diese Initiative “Schulen: Partner der Zkunft” ins Leben gerufen. Ihr Ziel ist es, ein weltumspannendes Netz von mindestens 1000 Partnerschulen aufzubauen und damit bei jungen Menschen Interesse und Begeisterung für das moderne Deutschland und seine Gesellschaft zu wecken. Die Deutsche Schule Durban erhielt am 21. Juli 2009 offiziell eine “PASCH” – Plakette, stellvertretend für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland überreicht durch Fr. Ebba Scholl. Damit gehört die DSD nun zu einer von weltweit 1.000 ausgewählten Schulen, die durch die Teilnahme an verschiedene Aktionen vernetzt werden.
